What is sexual orientation? Is being LGBTQ+ a disease? Are gay people faithful?

Join Tép as we answer these questions and debunk common misconceptions about the LGBTQ+ community in our series of articles: “Be Proud. Be Yourself.”

🌈 Red – orange – yellow – green – blue – indigo – violet: these are the seven basic colors we’ve long been familiar with. Each color contains many shades, reflecting the richness and diversity within each hue. Similarly, in the world we live in, every person is a unique piece, shining in the colorful mosaic of life.

🌻 SOGIESC is a term used to describe the diversity of human sexuality. It also encompasses the broad spectrum of the LGBTQ+ community. Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual are probably the three sexual orientations you hear about most when discussing LGBTQ+ topics. These three are also small parts within the larger concept of SOGIESC. Beyond that, there are many other terms related to gender, gender identity, and sex.

👉🏻 Let TEP help you better understand sexual diversity and support you on your journey to discovering and embracing your true self.

[How to know someone’s pronouns]

🥰 In a conversation, a good way to start is by sharing your own pronouns when introducing yourself. For example:

  • “Please call me ‘chị’ or ‘she/her’!”

  • “I’m Ngọc — you can use ‘you’ or ‘they/them’ for me!”

  • “I’m Dương, and I use ‘he/him’.”

  • “I’m Minh — you can just call me ‘Minh’!”

🥰 At first, it might feel unfamiliar, but over time it becomes a normal way to get to know someone while showing respect.

🥰 If you’re unsure of someone’s pronouns, use their name or neutral pronouns like ‘you’, and avoid assuming pronouns such as ‘anh’ or ‘chị’.

Listen to Your Story

💖 Besides having supportive friends who listen and encourage me, my mom is also quite open-minded about same-sex relationships. When I talk to her about it, she listens and warmly accepts my stories.

💖 I’m grateful to have such wonderful friends, yet I realize that the support I need most comes from within myself — because, deep down, I feel that no one truly understands me.
